Tusker FC’s campaign could not have started on a more dramatic note, as fans turned their frustration into an open call for the sacking of head coach Charles Okere following a 2-0 defeat to KCB in the season floodlight opener at Kasarani Stadium on Friday, 19 September.

The Brewers, chasing their elusive 13th league crown, were undone by a Boniface 'Bajaj' Omondi brace, the former Gor Mahia forward striking in the 18th minute before doubling the lead four minutes before halftime.
The result left Tusker rooted at the bottom of the embryonic table while handing the Bankers an early perch at the summit of the standings.
But it was the reaction off the pitch that set the tone, reigniting a simmering disconnect among Tusker's faithful.
In a video widely shared on Facebook, a section of visibly angered Tusker supporters, chanting “Okere must go”, demanded the immediate dismissal of the coach.
The chants carried a familiar echo, reminiscent of similar protests last season when fans called for his head after a humiliating 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Sofapaka, a defeat that ended Tusker’s title challenge.
Okere, who is leading Tusker in his first full season since being confirmed in December 2024, took over from long-serving tactician Robert Matano, now with KCB.
While his appointment was initially viewed as a fresh chapter, the opening-day setback has once again reopened the debate over his suitability to lead the 12-time champions.
In his post-match remarks, the former Harambee Starlets and Kenya U20 women’s coach conceded defeat but sought to highlight positives.
"First game of the season, and I believe it’s always tricky. KCB is a strong team, and we congratulate them on the win. For us, we could have done better, but conceding early changed the game,” Okere said.
The Brewers, however, had chances to turn the tide. Chief among them was a missed penalty by striker Erick Kapaito just before halftime that could have halved the scores and reignited Tusker’s hopes, but he dragged his effort wide off target.
He further called for patience with his new signings, insisting they need time to adapt to Tusker’s philosophy.
"They are quality players, but cohesion will take time. With more minutes in training and matches, they will settle in and deliver,” Okere emphasised.
The loss now sets up an early test of character for Tusker, who face Posta Rangers on Saturday, 28 September, in their second league fixture.
For Okere, the clash already feels like a must-win, not just for points but for his job security.
