Omija, who is currently part of Kenya’s CHAN team, has been one of the standout players at the tournament. Given his excellent performances, it comes as no surprise that the Kenya international is now being linked with a possible transfer away from the record FKF Premier League champions.
On Tuesday, reports from Tunisia indicated that Club Africain is keen on strengthening their defense and that Omija is viewed as one of the ideal faces to beef up the team's backline ahead of the new season.
When asked about the rumours, Omija, known for his calm demeanour, clarified the situation. He revealed that he had been contacted by an intermediary who claimed there was interest from Tunisian clubs.
“I was contacted by someone from Tunisia who told me there is interest from some clubs, but that’s as far as it went.
No detailed discussions have taken place. The truth is, nothing concrete has been agreed upon yet. For now, this remains speculation rather than a formal offer,” Omija said.
Despite the transfer talk, Omija’s focus remains firmly on his performances at CHAN.
“Right now, CHAN is the most important thing for me, the team, and the country. We want to continue delivering the good performances we have shown so far and progress as far as possible in the tournament.
Anything can happen, so we must keep on giving our best in every game. We will see how far the teamwork we’ve displayed can take us,” he added.
“Once CHAN is over, I will then focus on my club football and plans for the next season.”
On Tuesday, journalist Sakher Suhailawi reported that Club Africain fans are equally urging their management to sign Omija to fill the gap left by Libyan defender Ali Youssef, rather than pursuing CA Bizertin’s Abdou Saidi.
Suhailawi highlighted that the 22-year-old Kenya international is currently shining in the CHAN tournament and is known for his strong, fast defensive style, which closely resembles that of Ali Youssef.
Additionally, he noted that Omija’s market value is considered more affordable compared to the estimated €200,000 price tag of the CAB defender, Saidi.
