The record Kenyan champions have been in the market for a prolific striker to solve their goalscoring problems that have bedevilled the club since the start of last season.
The journey and search for a proven goalscorer has now taken the Kenyan giants to Uganda, where they are said to have set their sights on the signature of the former Wakiso Giants forward.
The imminent transfer of the 23-year-old was revealed by Ugandan sports journalist Ismael Kiyonga through his X (formerly Twitter) account.
“Former Wakiso Giants FC & New York Red Bull II centre forward Frank Ssebuufu is on the verge of joining Kenyan giants Gor Mahia.
I am meant to understand that K'Ogalo officials are in the country to seal the deal amidst interest from other clubs,” reads the post.
Kiyonga's transfer update is galvanised by the fact that Gor Mahia deputy patron Eliud Owalo and the club's chairman Ambrose Rachier are in Uganda, as confirmed by the former's social media posts.
Ssebuufu is currently unattached since leaving New York Red Bulls II back in January, a club he joined in March 2023 from Ugandan side Wakiso Giants.
During his time at the US-based side, the Ugandan made 55 appearances and found the back of the net 10 times.
Should Ssebuufu put pen to paper at K'Ogalo, he will be under pressure to perform in a club that has had problems with the forward position since the beginning of the 2024/25 season, when Harambee Stars forward Benson Omala left for greener pastures.
In the 2024/25 season, Gor Mahia went trophyless, partly and largely due to the unavailability of a prolific striker.
The club's top scorer in the league was Austin Odhiambo, a creative midfielder who was previously the supplier in chief for Omalla.
Owalo has previously stated that K'Ogalo are in the market for two top-quality strikers before they head into the 2025/26 league season.
