The date and venue for the highly anticipated playoff are yet to be officially announced, but excitement is already palpable among supporters and players from both camps ahead of the crucial encounter.
Gor Mahia Queens secured their place in the playoff after finishing second in Zone A of the FKF Women's National Super League behind Mathare United Women, who earned automatic promotion following a strong and consistent campaign throughout the season.
In Zone B, Elim White Ladies also narrowly missed out on direct promotion after ending the campaign behind Shabana Starlets, who sealed automatic qualification to the FKF Women's Premier League.
Having fallen just short of automatic promotion, both teams now head into the playoffs with everything to fight for as they seek to complete their journey to the top tier of women’s football in Kenya.
Elim White Ladies will be banking on their impressive attacking force that has delivered crucial goals throughout the season.
The team’s leading scorer, Monicah Naswa, has netted 10 goals so far, while Amutata Noel has added eight goals and Celestine Wanjala has contributed seven.
Their attacking combination has played a major role in helping the club emerge as one of the strongest sides in Zone B.
Apart from their attacking quality, Elim will also look to captain Sharon Mato for leadership and composure during the high-pressure showdown. Mato believes her side has done enough preparation and insists the team is mentally ready for the challenge ahead.
“We have worked hard throughout the season to reach this stage, and the players are fully prepared for the challenge ahead. Gor Mahia are a good side, but we also believe in our quality and what we can achieve as a team.
This is the kind of match every player wants to be involved in, and we are ready to fight for promotion,” said Mato.
On the other side, Gor Mahia Queens will count on experienced players such as Lucky Achando, skipper Dorine Obiero and Rael Kamanda to guide the team through the pressure of the winner-takes-all clash.
Kamanda says the team respects Elim White Ladies but remains confident about its chances of earning promotion.
“We know Elim White Ladies have had a very good season, and they deserve to be in this playoff, but we are equally prepared.
The mood in camp is positive, and everyone understands what is at stake. Matches like these are decided by determination and discipline, and we are ready to give everything on the pitch,” said Kamanda.
The playoff is expected to produce a thrilling and fiercely contested encounter, with both sides determined to seize the final promotion slot and join Mathare United Women and Shabana Starlets in next season’s FKF Women's Premier League.
