It's just a matter of time before the fast rising rookie hits the airwaves globally

There’s no doubting 19-year-old Benson Omala has always been a star on the rise. While at Western Stima in December 2019, he became the first powerman to hit a hat-trick in a Kenyan Premier League match; a record he wrote in a 4-1 win against Zoo FC at Moi Stadium.

Subsequently, the then 17-year-old striker went on to become the youngest ever recipient of the league’s player of the month award after winning the December award. He finished that season with nine goals to his name in that campaign.

Just nine months later, the former Stima talisman would be unveiled at record league champions Gor Mahia despite having not finished his post-primary studies yet.

Now, the 19-year-old has found his first breakthrough after Swedish third-tier side FC Linkoping City completed the signing of the teenage sensation.

Omala initially confirmed reports that the Swedish side had been interested in him but he had chosen to make the decision after his final examinations that are around the corner.

"The club has been chasing me for some time but in the meantime, I am focused on writing my exams first. I have a lengthy contract with Gor and will make a decision once I finish school," he disclosed.

That was not to be the case as FC Linkoping completed the signing of the prodigy and announced him yesterday. The Kisumu Day student is now set to join the club after his exams and will reportedly be on loan from 1st April to 1st December 2021.

Omala featured in the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom All-Stars team that visited Spain in 2019 after he emerged as the Nyanza regional top scorer. He also earned a national team call-up for Kenya U20 in the 2019 Cecafa Challenge Cup that was held in Uganda where he found the back of the net in two occasions.

As far as journeys go, Omala has certainly started his with a view to emulating his role model Michael Olunga, who played for Swedish side IF Djurgardens FC and continues to raise the bar even higher with his performances.

That news broke the internet today and the whole country is happy.

All the best Benson Omalla. Do your thing!
