Gor star Austin Odhiambo credits support from team for his improved performance

The midfielder, who is having a season to remember, is two goals away from hitting double figures
Gor Mahia creative midfielder, Austin Odhiambo, has attributed his solid performance in the season to hard work and the support from his teammates.
"Hard work and team spirit have been the secret to my form this season. Previously, it was more hunting individual glory but the team effort is bringing the best out of me,” he told Mozzart Sport.
Odhiambo's goal was the difference in yesterday's Mashemeji derby as pounced on a mistake by AFC Leopards goalkeeper Levis Opiyo who couldn't evade the double press.
"The feeling was good. It was a derby and it's always exciting to score and help the team get maximum points," he said.
Arguably the best player in the FKF PL this season with 8 goals and a couple of assists, Odhiambo has been a dependable player at Gor side as he has constantly delivered when called upon to.
"It is important for me to score such goals that help the team as we're in the title race. Everybody has to play their part in that endeavor," he stated.
Reacting to the goal he scored in the derby, the 22-year-old said, that when the opportunity to double press the goalkeeper arose, he didn’t hesitate but put the Leopards custodian under pressure.
Just like in other games, Odhiambo was the target of Leopards players in the derby and was on the receiving end of hard tackles right from the start of the game but his coach Jonathan McKinstry was well prepared for it
"We gave Austin instructions to play one or two touches maximum, draw opponents to him, and create space for Musa Masika and Alpha Onyango to explore which actually worked. I know he likes to have more touches on the ball but I'm glad he played according to plan," offered the tactician.
With his performances growing better by the day and the season end drawing closer, his name will most likely be drawing attention and making headlines in the transfer market but the Ambira High School alumnus is just focused on the current goal
"I am just working hard to help the team retain the league for now without thinking much about the future," he added.
