Coach Beldine Odemba says Kenya is preparing meticulously and wants to face strong opposition to fine-tune the team ahead of the competition
The final draw for the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026 will take place in Rabat on Thursday, 15 January 2025, giving teams their first chance to learn about their opponents in the historic 16-team tournament.
The draw starts at 3 pm EAT.
Harambee Starlets coach Beldine Odemba says Kenya is preparing meticulously and wants to face strong opposition to fine-tune the team ahead of the competition.
“We shall play against Zambia in two friendly matches, and we will travel there as part of our preparations,” Odemba said. “After that, we have not finalised the next steps, but we will know how to prepare well for the tournament.”
The coach also revealed plans to host a four-nation mini-tournament at home, with South Africa high on the list, to give the Starlets exposure to top teams before WAFCON.
“We want to play against strong teams at home,” Odemba added. “Even though it will be a small tournament, it will be very useful for our preparations.”
The 16 qualified teams for WAFCON 2026 are Morocco (hosts), Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia.
CAF women’s awards
On the same day as the draw, CAF will announce the winners of key Women’s Football awards, including: CAF Women’s Coach of the Year, CAF Women’s Interclub Player of the Year and CAF Women’s Club of the Year
The awards were originally scheduled for the CAF Awards 2025 but were postponed as the Women’s Football season was still ongoing due to the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Voting for the awards has since reopened, with CAF overseeing the process while panels of media, coaches, captains, and technical committees determine the winners.
