The biennial continental tournament will be held in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, who have dubbed it the CHAN PAMOJA 2024 after they jointly won the hosting rights.
Harambee Stars, who will be making their debut in the tournament, will take to the field for the first time on Sunday, 3 August, with a match against DR Congo at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani, from 3pm.
Speaking ahead of the match, Sakari has disclosed that the team draws motivation from the benefits of the tournament.
“Everyone is expecting a competitive tournament because the big boys are coming, and so for debutants like us, we expect to give a lot because it is a platform and a stepping stone to higher levels,” said Sakari.
Kenya is in group A alongside African giants Morocco, who have already arrived in the country, Angola, Zambia, and two-time champions the DR Congo.
Despite Harambee Stars being clear underdogs in the group, Sakari is confident in the team's preparations and ability to begin the tournament on a high note.
“Preparations have been good. We have been together for about three weeks and have put in the right work. Everyone is now ready for the big game on Sunday (against DR Congo),” added Sakari.
Coach Benni McCarthy once again suffered a major blow ahead of the tournament after star midfielder Mohamed Bajaber withdrew from the squad on Monday, 27 July, with reports linking him to a move to Tanzanian giants Simba SC.
McCarthy, who is clearly yet to be satisfied with his team, called up three additional players to the squad on the same day.
Sofapaka's Edward ‘Ondimo’ Omondi, who had been initially dropped from the squad, has been recalled with Shabana's Brian Michira and Tusker's Chris Erambo also joining the squad.
