The law enforcers hosted the bankers in an FKF league match held at the Kericho Green Stadium on Wednesday, which ended 1-0 in favor of APS Bomet.
Before the match, the CS promised each player Ksh 50,000 should they take down KCB as part of incentives to ensure the team retains its league status.
With Festus Kipkemoi’s 28th-minute strike ensuring they bag the three points, Mutkomen handed the team Ksh1.85 million in cash to be shared among 37 players and officials who were in the squad, with each expected to receive Ksh50,000.
“I had promised the team some small token should they win the KCB match. Having secured a win, I have fulfilled my promise,” said Murkomen.
“We are doing all that we can to ensure the team remains in the league, and while we are not yet safe, this win draws us closer to safety,” he added.
Murkomen landed at the Kericho Green Stadium minutes before kickoff in the company of the Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Administration Police Service (DIG-APS), Gilbert Masengeli, who serves as the Deputy Patron of the club, where they were joined by Kericho Governor Dr. Eric Mutai, among other leaders, to watch the match.
The amount is expected to go a long way toward boosting the players' morale, even as the club continues to fight for survival.
APS is now 13th on the league table with 34 points, four points above Kariobangi Sharks in the relegation zone.
Next up for APS is an away clash against Mathare United set for Saturday, 9 May, at the Kasarani Annex from 1300 hrs.
