The two sides will face in the Nations League Group A tie. Their World Cup showdown in 1954 remains one of the biggest upsets ever
Do you believe in miracles? Well, there's no wrong answer, but those Germans should and are obliged to believe after that notorious 'The Miracle of Bern'. Haven't you heard of it yet? Then you're missing one of the craziest football stories ever.
Buckle up cause we're about to share with you the epic moment of the FIFA World Cups that still haunts the tiny Hungarian national side for decades.
It was July of 1954, and the so-called Golden Team, or the Mighty Magyars - led by charismatic Ferenc Puskas - were the best team in the world by a mile. But there was that one catch - they had to prove it on the pitch and win the World Cup. And the things were going smooth for them, as they tarnished West Germany in the group stage 8-3, before defeating Brazil in the quarter-finals and Uruguay in the semis with the same result (4-2).
#OnThisDay in 1954, #Hungary were about to win the World Cup. #FerencPuskás had put the Mighty Magyars ahead after six minutes and #ZoltánCzibor had doubled the advantage after eight. They were 2-0 up inside ten minutes and they had not lost in four years. pic.twitter.com/eGRNsaGK80

It seemed like a piece of cake for them to reach the glory as their rival in the showdown game was none other than their old 'customer' - West Germany. But, despite all the expectations - then came the miracle!
Not only Die Mannschaft were the underdogs, not only the Golden Team were unbeaten for 32 consecutive games, but the Hungarians even went two goals up in the finals after just eight minutes. And still - managed to lose!?

Yes, they conceded two before the half-time break and one more in the second period to see the trophy shockingly slipping through their fingers in the pouring rain in Bern (Switzerland). West Germany's victory in the final is considered one of the greatest upsets of all time and one of the finest achievements in German sporting history.

So, why did we tell you this story today? Because in a couple of hours the two sides will meet again. Only this time in Budapest, with the Germans considered massive favourites to win the maiden Nations League group game.
It would be a massive upset to see the Hungarians win it on their soil, with Havertz, Sane, Gnabry and co. hoping to clinch an important away win in the group that is comprised of two more 'heavyweights' of the game, Italy and England.
