Former Manchester United forward was interested in joining Brazilian giants Flamengo, but as things stand, he'll sign a three-year deal with AEK Athens
We have a confession to make - we were too naive.
A few days ago, Mozzart Sport Kenya reported about possible Anthony Martial's move to Brazilian giants Flamengo. It was not fake news, and we mentioned that the player was eager to move to Brazil. The former Manchester United forward wasn't impressed with AEK Athens' proposal of €2m per season.
However, the Greeks were persistent. Their second offer was improved to €3m (plus add-ons). This, basically, means he was offered a three-year contract worth €9m altogether, plus bonuses, and we're now much, much closer to Martial's 'yes'.
Sport24 reports that the 28-year-old player should have been presented as a new AEK player even before tonight's game against Volos, but some papers have not yet arrived in Athens, so the deal's conclusion has been postponed. Still, everything is expected to be completed very soon.
He won't be the only ex-Manchester United man in the Greek top division since Facundo Palistri recently joined AEK's city rival Panathinaikos.
