Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus popped with a late goal for Manchester City to deny Wolves an unlikely point
Manchester City continued their relentless march towards the Premier League trophy with a 4-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. The visitors returned to the match after an early opener, but late goals from Jesus and Mahrez ensured the win. Such is the talent at Pep Guardiola’s disposal, that the Citizens looked sharp despite making six changes to the team that beat West Ham at the weekend.
The Sky Blues put their visitors under pressure from the start and Nuno Espirito Santo’s team lasted only 15 minutes before conceding. Leander Dendoncker hammered the ball into his own net when he tried to deal with a wicked Riyad Mahrez cross.

The visitors could hardly get a feel of the ball as City enjoyed around 80 percent of the possession. Adama Traore looked the most likely to turn the game around for Wolves, but Ruben Dias and John Stones looked solid.
City’s failure to kill the game off during their spell of dominance nearly cost them two points tonight. It didn’t look good for Pep and his players when Wolves captain scored with a terrific diving header to level just after the hour mark.
Gabriel Jesus made sure the points stayed at Etihad Stadium late on, however. The Brazilian striker made the most of a Kyle Walker cross to find a way to the net in a crowded box. City gambled with their supporters’ patience by making a hard work of the game, but Mahrez made sure there was no dramatic comeback when he made it 3-1 on 90 minutes following a fruitful high press from his team-mates.
There was still time for Jesus to add the fourth with the last kick off the game to completely ruin the night for Espirito Santo and his battling players. The three-goal margin will seem harsh on the visitors, but Man City quality ultimately showed and Guardiola’s side made it 21 wins in a row.
