Junior Starlets coach issues rallying cry to Kenyans ahead of pivotal World Cup qualifier

Kenya U17 Women's national team head coach Mildred Cheche has issued a passionate call to Kenyans to support the team in their crucial tie against South Africa.

The Junior Starlets will face their South African counterparts in the second leg of the third and final 2026 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup qualifier match scheduled for Sunday, 12 July at the Nyayo National Stadium from 1500 hrs.

Kenya head into the match with a huge advantage, following a 2-0 win over Bantwana in the first leg that drew the World Cup dream closer.

With 90 minutes separating Junior Starlets from the global tourney, Cheche, who was speaking during the Police FC gala dinner on Tuesday, 7 July had a message to the Kenyan faithful.

“We appreciate the support that we have been receiving from Kenyans and we urge them to turn up in large numbers at Nyayo and show their support to the team. A full Nyayo Stadium will go a long way in boosting our morale to give our best and qualify for the World Cup,” said Cheche.

The Junior Starlets are targeting a second qualification to the World Cup, following their maiden appearance in the 2024 edition that was held in the Dominican Republic.

Having led Kenya to its hostoric qualification, Cheche understands the difficulty of the task but believes the team has what it takes to qualify.

“We are on the brink of a second World Cup qualification with a big match coming up on Sunday. It is still a difficult task, but we are ready, and will do our best to once again achieve this historic feat,” she added.

To boost fans attendance for the crucial match, FKF has announced free entry on regular stands while those who want the confirt of VIP will part with Ksh500.
