The Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) men’s and women’s Premier Leagues have entered their mid-season break, but there will be no shortage of action this weekend as the Super League and National League continue across the country before all domestic competitions pause for the inaugural U18 Hockey5s Youth Africa Cup.

Last weekend's Premier League fixtures reshaped both title races before the top-flight took a break, leaving the remaining divisions to occupy center stage as clubs seek to build momentum heading into the recess.

In the Men's Premier League, Warriors reclaimed top spot after an emphatic weekend that saw them dispatch Daikyo Heroes 4-0 before earlier title hopefuls suffered costly defeats. Daikyo, who had entered the weekend with an opportunity to move to the summit, instead finished empty-handed after also losing 1-0 to USIU-A.

USIU-A enjoyed one of their best weekends of the campaign, following up the Daikyo victory with a 2-0 win over Greensharks to climb away from the foot of the standings. Wazalendo and Parklands Sports Club also shared the headlines after Parklands claimed a valuable 2-1 victory, while Wazalendo had earlier edged Greensharks 2-1.

Those results left Warriors leading the standings on 18 points after nine matches, one point ahead of Western Jaguars, while Sikh Union Nairobi sit third, level on 17 points with Jaguars but behind on goal difference.

The Women's Premier League also heads into the break with Blazers firmly in control of the title race. A narrow 1-0 victory over Kisumu Queens stretched their lead to 17 points from seven matches despite having games in hand over several of their closest challengers.

USIU-A remain second on 13 points despite suffering a surprise 1-0 defeat to Amira Sailors, while defending champions Lakers occupy third place on 11 points having played only six matches. Kisumu Queens recovered from defeat to Blazers by edging Sliders 1-0 to continue tightening an increasingly competitive battle behind the leaders.

With the Premier League now on hold, attention turns to the lower divisions, where clubs have one final opportunity to improve their positions before the scheduled break.

The Super League Men's competition continues to gather pace after several clubs made encouraging starts to the campaign. Nakuru will host two important fixtures across the weekend, beginning with Wazalendo Masters on Saturday before facing Impala Club on Sunday. Strathmore University Men, who have enjoyed a positive opening to the season, will conclude their weekend against Parkroad Badgers as they seek to remain among the early pace-setters.

In the Women's Super League, Gorillas Ladies face a demanding weekend beginning with an away trip to Lakers B before another meeting with Wazalendo Pearls on Sunday. Daystar University Ladies will also be in action against Twinkle as teams continue settling into what has become a reshaped competition following the withdrawal of Black Tigress before the season began.

The National League also remains busy across its regional conferences.

In the Eastern Zone, Ulinzi Patriots continue their return to competitive hockey with a meeting against Black Tigers, before TUK host the former Kenyan champions a day later. Parklands SC Legacy, who have made an encouraging start to life in the National League, face Black Tigers after travelling to Snippers in recent weeks, while Daystar University Men visit Snippers.

Western Zone fixtures will see Kitale Hockey Club host Nandi Hawks in another contest that could influence the early standings.

Domestic hockey will pause after next weekend's fixtures from 25 July to 2 August as Kenya hosts the inaugural U18 Hockey5s Youth Africa Cup at Dashmesh Hockey Stadium in Nairobi from 6 – 8 August.
