AFC Leopards skipper Robinson Kamura has revealed that the forthcoming Mashemeji Derby is the best chance for them to win to fierce clash.
With close to five years elapsing since AFC Leopards last tasted victory in the Mashemeji Derby over Gor Mahia, Ingwe skipper Robinson Kamura revealed that the clash on Sunday presents them with the best chance to win the fierce contest.
Ingwe fans have endured a torrid time losing to bitter rivals Gor Mahia in seven consecutive games and going on an 11 game winless run.
The last time Ingwe tasted victory in the hotly contested derby was back in March 2016 when Lamine Diallo scored the lone goal and have only tasted victory on three occasions since 2011.
Having picked up some form ahead of the derby, winning three games on the spin, Kamura believes that the 89th derby presents Ingwe with the best chance to break their wretched form against K’Ogalo.
“I have never won the derby, I have played in five derbies and I feel it is the right time to win against Gor for our fans and for ourselves too because this group of players have never tasted victory.
“There is no better time like now to win the derby, this season we do not want to participate in the league, we want to competitors and we want to win the title,” said Kamura.
The last time Ingwe won the league was back in 1998 but have won the Sheild on four occasions 2001, 2009, 2013 and 2017.
With this being the first time the derby is set to be played behind closed doors, Kamura promised to give their all for the fans watching from home.
“This is history, the derby has never been played behind closed doors. We will miss the fans, their support which is really important for us in the game but we will play for them and work hard for the three points.
“The derby has no form we cannot say that we have an upper hand after winning three games consecutively. My only positive in the derby is a draw and I would like to change that,” he added.
The game is set to kick off at 3 PM and fans can catch the game live on Burudani TV.
