Keane and Scholes rip United and Amorim after West Ham draw

Reading Time: 3min | Fri. 05.12.25. | 18:13

Former United's midfielder was also annoyed by the absence of Mainoo in the starting lineup

Former Manchester United players don‘t like to criticize their own club. In fact, nobody likes to do it. But, when you move from being a player to being a TV pundit, you are bound to be given your former team to watch. And when you were a serial winner and you have to watch your successors playing bad football and failing to win at home against a relegation battling side, words are just coming out of your mouth with lightning speed. Roy Keane was against forced to watch United and gave a sharp critique, claiming that Manchester players are ‘scared‘ of being fifth at the table.

“United have scored just one goal in their last two home games - they're just putting themselves under pressure. Every time I watch this United team they just disappoint me. They weren't clinical, they weren't nasty enough to get the job done. I think the standard of United's play in the last three or four games has been desperate. Really, really poor. Again they seemed frightened to get the job done. Frightened to go up to fifth. My goodness, we're talking about fifth here by the way, not the top of the league. You try and deal better being one up against a team in the bottom three and Everton with 10 men. If you can't deal with that, how can you deal with being a team in the top of the table? When you look at the squad, considering the money that has been spent, they lack strength in depth, particularly in the attacking areas. Defensively and in midfield, there are huge questions. I wouldn't trust or believe in this team that they can get results“ he said to Sky Sports.

On the other side, Keane‘s former teammate Paul Scholes took a different path. He is also criticizing, but from another perspective. As a former United‘s academy member, he has been annoyed for some time with the absence of Kobbie Mainoo in the starting line up. And he doesn‘t buy into Amorim‘s explanations anymore. So, after a West Ham draw, he was quite direct on his Instagram account.

“Bulls***. The kid is being ruined, not being played in a team that can't control a game of football. Hate seeing home grown players leave but it's probably best for him now, enough is enough“ he wrote. He may be correct, but Mainoo‘s absence seems to be just a drop in the huge sea of United‘s problems.
