The 21-year-old featured eight times for Leyton Orient, this season, but was eager for consistent playing time.

Tranmere Rovers confirmed the move on social media.

“Tranmere Rovers are delighted to announce that midfielder Zech Obiero has joined on loan from League One Leyton Orient until the end of the season. Obiero, 21, began his youth career at Premier League Tottenham Hotspur before joining Leyton Orient at age 14,” the club statement read.

Speaking after the move, Obiero, who was part of Kenya’s preliminary squad for the U20 AFCON before being omitted from the final team, expressed his excitement.

“I am really happy to be here, excited to start a new journey, and ready to get going. I would say I’m more attacking-minded. I like to work hard and track back, but my main focus is going forward. I dribble, create goals, and set up assists. That is my game.”

Tranmere manager Andy Crosby welcomed the midfielder, describing him as a valuable addition.

“We are really pleased to bring Zech in. He is a young player with potential and a fantastic attitude. He is technically sound, plays with energy and bravery, and we believe this is the perfect environment for him to continue his development.”

Obiero told Leyton Orient’s media team that the loan is an opportunity to gain experience and fight for a place at his parent club next season.

“Going out on loan is something I really wanted for the second half of this season. I am going to give my all for Tranmere, learn as much as I can, and come back ready to compete for my spot next season.”

Leyton Orient head coach Richie Wellens added, “This is a great opportunity for Zech. He needs regular playing time to develop, and once he does that, he has the ability to become a really big player for us.”

Born in England, Obiero is the son of former Kenyan footballer Henry Obiero.

His brother, Micah Obiero, is also a professional footballer.
