Kenyan forward bags Team of the Week appearance in Scotland

Following a brace in the Scottish League Cup, Kenyan forward Jonah Ayunga who plies his trade with St.Mirren has been included in the competition’s Team of the Week.

Since making the switch to St.Mirren back in May from English Football League (EFL) League One side Morecambe, Ayunga has been in frightening form for the Scottish club.

A goal in each half against FC Edinburgh in the final Group Stage clash of the League Cup saw St.Mirren record a 3-1 win but they missed out on a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

St.Mirren finished the Group with six points while Airdrieonians who sealed the final group place in the knockout phases of the competition proceeded with seven points.

Ayunga was included in a front three boasting of Dale Carrick who turns out for Stirling Albion and Dundee FC’s Alex Jakubiak with Ayunga the only St.Mirren player on the team.

The 25-year-old has now scored five goals for St.Mirren with four of the goals coming in the League Cup while the other strike was registered in the 2-1 pre-season win over Linfield.

Ayunga is yet to feature for Harambee Stars having been born to a Kenyan father and English mother but received a call up to the Kenya Under 23 side back in 2018.
