The experienced shot-stopper announced his exit through an emotional message on his official Facebook page, thanking the club's management, coaches, teammates and supporters for the role they played during his stay in Addis Ababa.
"My journey at St George has come to an end. I would like to thank the management for giving me an opportunity to represent the biggest club in Ethiopian football.
I would also like to thank the coaching staff for always believing in me even at my lowest point, especially goalkeeper coach Daniel, who has been a father figure to me.
I would also like to thank my fellow players who stood with me side by side in the battlefield, especially when we were at our lowest during the financial crisis at the club.
You guys are family. I also extend my sincere appreciation to the amazing St George fans who never gave up on us even when things seemed hopeless.
May God bless you, and may God bless Saint George. All the best in the coming season and in your future endeavours."
Shikalo joined St George in October 2025 after leaving FKF Premier League side KCB FC on a one-year deal and quickly established himself as the club's first-choice goalkeeper.
His commanding displays between the posts made him one of the team's most consistent performers throughout a challenging campaign.
Despite St George enduring an inconsistent league season that saw them finish sixth in the Ethiopian Premier League, Shikalo commanded most minutes between the posts and played a role in helping the Addis Ababa-based outfit lift the Addis Ababa Cup, adding another medal to his growing trophy collection.
His exit is expected to pave the way for a return to Kenyan football, with Nairobi United understood to be closing in on his signature.
The 2025 Mozzart Bet Cup winners are keen to bolster their squad with experienced players ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Shikalo's vast experience at club and international level is viewed as a major asset as the club seeks to challenge for domestic honours after enduring a trophyless debut season in the top flight.
The move will also see the former Posta Rangers, Bandari, Yanga SC and KCB goalkeeper replace Kevin Oduor, who is set to complete a move to 2024/25 league champions Kenya Police FC.
