Garvin Gachangi joins Elche on a two-year contract
Kenyan youngster Garvin Gachangi, 20, has officially joined Spanish second-tier side Elche CF on a two-year contract.
Gachangi, a fast-paced winger that can also play as a striker, moved to Spain last year to join lower-tier side Villena CF from FC Eindhoven U21 side and the risk has now paid off.
He joined Elche reserves in July and has now been promoted to the senior side as per the announcement by the club.
"Elche CF has reached an agreement for the incorporation of Garvin Gachangi (25/5/2002, Kenya). The footballer has developed at Willem 2 and FC Eindhoven for the past two seasons." A statement on Elche's portal reads.
Gachangi was born in Kenya but moved to Netherlands in 2014 with his mother Joyce Njeri. One year later, the lad joined an amateur side known as VV ONI and later moved to AV Eindhoven where he played until 2019. He then signed for Brabantia and was later scouted by FC Eindhoven where his star shone. A friendly against top-tier side Willem II was all he needed to impress and the club snapped him immediately.
Gachangi moved back to FC Eindhoven mid 2021 and a season later crossed over to Spain to join Villena where he is now settled. With the big move to Elche CF, it is just the beginning for the talented winger who aspires to play for Manchester United and featuring in the Champions League in the near future.
His mother, Joyce Njeri, hopes to see his kid playing for the Kenyan national team, Harambee Stars one day.
"I would be very proud to see him playing for Kenya because even though we have already acquired Dutch citizenship, we are still Kenyans. He still speaks perfect Swahili and is very proud of his culture and background," she said in past interview with Nation in 2020.
