There was talk at one point about Lewandowski and the Red Devils – but it ended just as quickly
Robert Lewandowski is entering the final months of his contract with Barcelona, which expires next summer. In recent weeks, speculation linked the Polish striker with a surprising move to Manchester United. However, that potential transfer now appears to be off the table.
According to reports from the English outlet Mirror, United manager Ruben Amorim had been eager to bring Lewandowski to Old Trafford. The Portuguese coach is said to admire the veteran forward and believed his experience could be invaluable for guiding the club’s young talents.
🚨❌ Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has personally intervened to block a move from Man Utd for Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, whose high wages are seen as unsustainable at Old Trafford.

Yet, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe reportedly blocked the idea. His reasoning? Lewandowski, now in the twilight of his career, does not fit the club’s long-term sporting vision.
Adding to that, Lewandowski’s wages are enormous. Mirror claims he earns over 618 thousand euros per week, totaling more than 32 million euros annually—a figure Ratcliffe views as excessive for a short-term addition. Instead, United’s leadership prefers to channel funds into developing younger prospects.
Barcelona, meanwhile, appear ready to part ways with their No. 9. According to Spanish daily Sport, the decision to allow Lewandowski to leave on a free transfer next summer has already been made internally. Factors behind that choice reportedly include his age, a visible dip in form, and reduced effectiveness in pressing.
The Catalan giants have already set their sights on a potential successor: Julian Alvarez. The Atletico Madrid forward is enjoying a standout campaign with 10 goals in 11 matches, but prying him away won’t be easy. His release clause stands at 500 million euros, while Atletico are said to want at least 200 million euros for a deal.
For now, Lewandowski remains a Barcelona player, though he’s currently sidelined. The veteran suffered a muscle tear in his right thigh during Poland’s match against Lithuania in mid-October and is expected to be out for several weeks.
