The Kilgoris-based side confirmed the departures in an official statement, thanking the players for their commitment and contribution during their time at the club.

Among those released are former Kisumu All Stars defender Billy Byron Owuor, ex-KCB defender Lameck Luhangala, and Kelvin Longbert Raphael, who joined the club from Zanzibar outfit JKU SC.

Goalkeeper Samuel Guto Mogaka and Mohamed Mwalango Makame have also been shown the exit door.

"We bid farewell to the players who have been part of our journey and proudly represented our badge. Thank you for wearing our colours with pride and giving your all in every match.

We are grateful for your contribution and wish you nothing but success, good health and greater achievements in the next chapter of your football careers. Thank you, and all the best for the future," the club said in a statement.

The departures are expected to be the first of several changes at Mara Sugar as the club prepares for its third consecutive season in the top flight.

The sugar millers could also lose two of their key performers from last season. Left-back Jimmy Owili, who was voted the club's Most Valuable Player (MVP), is reportedly on the verge of completing a move to KCB, while dependable central defender Robinson Musungu has been heavily linked with a switch to AFC Leopards.

With a number of exits already confirmed and more expected, Mara Sugar are set to be active in the transfer market as they look to strengthen key areas of the squad before the new season gets underway.

The club enjoyed its most successful top-flight campaign last season, finishing an impressive 11th in the league standings.

The improvement marked significant progress from the previous campaign, when they spent much of the season battling relegation before eventually securing survival in the closing weeks.

Mara will now be hoping their recruitment drive provides the quality needed to build on last season's encouraging finish and gradually establish themselves as a force in the league.
