If the Narok-based club beats Silibwet on Saturday they will officially have their place in the Premier League next season

National Super League club Mara Sugar are now just a point away from achieving promotion to the FKF Premier League after securing an important 1-0 victory over Nairobi United in a Sunday afternoon game played at the Awendo Green Stadium.

The sugar-millers, who last lost a league fixture in March, had seen their lead on top of the standings slashed to a point after Mathare United’s win on Friday, but once again cemented their authority with a solitary goal from Drona Langa.

The 23rd win for Mara now takes them 11 points clear of third-placed Naivas with four games to play, meaning that a win in their next game against Silibwet Leons will secure top-tier status.

Nairobi United on the other hand will see the loss as a missed opportunity to break into the top three, but still have a game in hand over Naivas.

In other fixtures played on Sunday, Kisumu All Stars extended their recent purple patch that has seen them win four of their last five matches with a 1-0 victory over Darajani Gogo at the KIBHT Grounds.

On-form striker Michael Karamor was the difference-maker in the game, fueling All Stars’ promotion hopes as they are only five points behind Naivas.

Meanwhile, Luanda Villa jumped up two places to 11th after ending their two-game winless run with a 1-0 win over SS Assad.

Austin Nyagol’s first-half free-kick was enough to settle the tie.

At Serani Sports Club, ten-man Rainbow held on for a 1-1 draw against ninth-placed Mombasa Stars.

Mombasa Stars got their goal through Joel Kihara only for Hansel Ochieng to equalize for Rainbow despite them playing with a man disadvantage following Jacob Otieno’s dismissal for accumulating two yellow cards.
