Matasi elated after clinching first league title with Tusker

Despite having an illustrious career thus far, Patrick Matasi had to wait till 2022 to bag his first league title and did so by aiding Tusker FC to their 13th league crown.

Matasi could not hide his delight after completing his trophy cabinet with one of the titles that had eluded him for the better part of his career.

“I've taken every trophy available in Kenya and in my trophy cabinet it's just the title that was missing, now that I have it, it's a plus going forward.

We need to figure out what we want next season, after celebrating this title we need to put it behind us and focus on the coming season,” said Matasi.

The 34-year-old played 25 matches for Tusker and kept 18 clean sheets as he bagged the Golden Glove award and played an integral part in helping the league title stay at Ruaraka.

Matasi recalled how they posted a poor start to the season and opened up on how determined they were to wrestle the title from Kakamega Homeboyz.

“I thank God that we lifted the title because everything happens for a reason, we started the season poorly, at some point we were number 14 but refused to give up and continued to push.

We were positive in everything we were doing, every time we woke up in the morning we were positive that we would make it. In the last six games, we promised to take the title race down to the wire,” added Matasi.
