Mathare United midfielder John Nyawir is seeking more first-team action following his exploits against Kenya Police FC.
The former Gor Mahia Youth sensation came off the bench to assist Paul Kinyanjui's last-minute winner over the Law Enforcers.
Speaking after the hard-fought 1-0 win against the title-contending side, Nyawir, who was just signed by the Slum Boys from NSL club SamWest Blackboots, is striving to break into Mathare's starting lineup.
Since joining the 2008 Premier League champions earlier this month, the offensive wizard has been primarily a second-half substitute.
He does, however, acknowledge that he must put in more effort to be regarded as a starter in coach John Kamau's squad.
"I always remind myself that coming in as a second-half substitute, I have to work extra hard because I came in the mid-season transfer window, so I have to put extra effort to be a regular starter, and that's my aim now moving forward," Nyawir explained.
The dazzling winger also expresses his excitement to hit the ground running after recording his first assist of the 2024/2025 Premier League season.
Nyawir believes he is on track to meet his season goals of assisting and scoring goals to help Mathare finish in a reputable position.
The Slum Boys are now 12th in the league standings, with 25 points, six points above the relegation zone.
"My intentions when joining the team were to provide assists and score goals to help the team finish in a better position, and giving an assist for the last-minute goal is a positive sign," the player said.
Nyawir will be seeking to extend his form when KCB hosts Mathare on Wednesday 26 February, in a rescheduled FKF Premier League encounter.
A win for Kamau's charges would move them up to 11th place on the log, tied with Ulinzi Stars on 28 points, though the latter has a superior goal difference.
