Real forward absent due to the sprained left knee

As the season nears its end, the pressure rises in top clubs like Real Madrid. The title battle is in full swing in Spain, while a big opponent, Manchester City was defeated twice in the Champions League and now even stronger one, Bayern Munich is next. On top of that, the World Cup is approaching fast so any injuries are a problem. And when that happens to the best players, the fear grows. Real’s Kylian Mbappe is finally healthy, ‘100 percent’ as he said himself, following three-and-a-half weeks layoff because of the sprained left knee, which has caused him trouble since the end of last year.

There was much ‘noise’ about his injury, the extend of it and the way the doctors threaded him. The reliable Spanish Cadena SER were reporting that Kylian Mbappe has been playing with a partial tear of the posterior crucial ligament in his left knee. There were reports from L’Equipe that Real was forcing the player to at least participate in the second leg of the Manchester City tie, but that both Mbappe and his entourage had World Cup participation in mind. Luckily for both the player and the club, the first leg finished in a 3-0 win and the Frenchman was on the bench for the second game, as well as for the Atletico Madrid game.

My knee is fine, much better. It's progressing quite well, although I know there's been a lot of speculation about it and some false things have been said. It's the life of a top athlete; we're used to people saying things without verifying them or having any basis in fact” said Mbappe on a promotional event for the French national team.

The Real striker confirmed that he went to Paris for a second opinion on his knee injury, but not because he didn’t believe in Real’s doctors.

I had the opportunity to get a good diagnosis in Paris. And together we were able to devise a plan to get back to my best level with Real Madrid and also with an eye toward the World Cup” said the Frenchman. How much (and how long) will he play in the upcoming friendly matches remains to be seen.
