The former Sofapaka midfielder retired from active football in 2018.

National Super League side Migori Youth have elevated former Gor Mahia midfielder Kevin Oluoch to the rank of head coach ahead of the new season.

Oluoch had been serving as an assistant coach at the club in the past two seasons was picked for the head coach job that had been vacant since last month following the unceremonious exit of Marwa Chamberi.

Migori were dealt a blow at the end of the past season Chamberi who was in charge of the team joined Tanzanian Premier League side Prisons where he reunited with former Gor assistant coach Patrick Odhiambo. The pair had previously worked together at Biashara United.

According to Migori chairman Aziz Abdi, Oluoch ticked all the right boxes having spent the last two seasons with them and his vast experience as a player.

The retired midfielder won the league title with Sony Sugar, Gor and Sofapaka during his active years. He hanged up his boots in October 2018 after almost fourteen years of plying trade in the top flight.

I can confirm that Oluoch will be our head coach going forward. He understands the club inside out having joined us almost three years ago. He knows the demands of the second tier and relates well with the players. He holds a CAF D coaching license and I believe when normalcy returns, he will upgrade his badges. Oluoch is the man who will get the team promoted to the top tier,” he said.

Meanwhile, Aziz revealed that the club will promote at least six players from their feeder team in an effort to plug in the gaps left by those who left for greener pastures.

Migori, lost six players to top flight clubs but Aziz says time is ripe to bring the youngsters on board as well as add a handful of experienced players who will impress in the trials.

We lost key players in the transfer window but we are not worried at all. Our academy has been supplying the senior team with exciting talents from time to time. The best in the academy will get slots in the senior team,” he added.
