Red-hot forward Syphas Otieno, the NSL top scorer with five goals, will again be tasked by coach Sammy Otulo to lead the line as Migori target their seventh win of the campaign

National Super League (NSL) returns on Sunday, 23 November, with a tantalising set of five fixtures closing out round nine in what promises to be a defining weekend for both ends of the table.

All eyes will be fixed on Awendo Green Stadium where league leaders Migori Youth host Vihiga United in the highlight match of the day. The Migori-based outfit will be going full throttle as they seek to extend and solidify their place at the summit.

Since the season kicked off in September, Migori have been on an electrifying, upward trajectory, registering six wins, a single draw, and one defeat.

Backed by sponsors Mozzart Bet, the side has been ruthless at home and will be eager to stamp their authority once more.

Red-hot forward Syphas Otieno, the NSL top scorer with five goals, will again be tasked by coach Sammy Otulo to lead the line as Migori target their seventh win of the campaign.

However, Migori face a stern test against a wounded but dangerous Vihiga United. The Vihiga-based side has endured a torrid start to the season, managing just one win in eight matches, alongside four draws and three losses.

Placed 16th on seven points, just two above the red zone, coach Milton Kidiga is desperate to arrest their poor run and reignite their campaign.

The head-to-head record between the two sides from their last ten encounters slightly leans towards Migori, who have won four, with Vihiga taking three, and three matches ending in draws. Interestingly, Vihiga held bragging rights last season, collecting four points in both meetings, drawing in Migori and winning the return tie 2-0.

With Migori seeking to avoid a repeat of last season’s disappointment and Vihiga hunting their second win, the clash promises a thrilling contest.

Meanwhile, at Embu Stadium, one of the league’s most in-form sides, 3K FC, prepare for a thrilling encounter against newcomers Gucha Stars.

3K enter the fixture riding a remarkable seven-match unbeaten run, and will be hungry to stretch it to eight. Dominant and ruthless at home, the Mozzart Bet-backed side will again rely on their imposing home form as they chase a victory that could lift them to second place.

Coach Alfred Chege will be wary of any slip-ups, with promotion ambitions now firmly alive.

Gucha, meanwhile, arrive confident and rejuvenated after stunning Nzoia Sugar 2-1 last weekend, a result that ended their own three-match winless run.

With a chance to climb into the top half of the table with a victory, the Kisii-based debutants will be eager to secure their third win of the season. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two clubs, adding an extra layer of intrigue to a match promising fireworks.

Elsewhere, the Vapour Grounds will host one of the fiercest derbies in the NSL, the Slum Derby, as Kibera Black Stars lock horns with Darajani Gogo.

Black Stars come into the duel on the back of two straight losses that halted their fine early-season momentum.

The recent slump has seen the Iddi Badi-coached side slip from top spot to fifth, and they will be desperate to bounce back, with a win potentially cutting the gap with leaders Migori to just three points.

But Gogo, too, are coming off a two-match winless run, losing to Mombasa United and drawing with Mwatate United.

Coach Andrew Ongwae will be determined to steer his side back to winning ways. History leans slightly in favour of Gogo, who have triumphed twice in past meetings, with Kibera winning once and two clashes ending in draws.

With bragging rights and upward mobility at stake, this derby promises high drama.

At Sudi Stadium, Nzoia Sugar will be seeking redemption when they take on Kisumu All Stars in what is expected to be another entertaining clash.

Nzoia are coming off a rude 2-1 loss to debutants Gucha Stars that snapped their seven-match unbeaten run.

Despite a turbulent start to the season, Charles Odero’s charges have shown potential, but have failed to convert performances into victories.

Their only win of the season dates back over two months, a triumph over 3K FC in the opening tie of the campaign.

They will now be desperate to record their second win and halt the recent slump.

Kisumu All Stars, on the other hand, finally got their season up and running last weekend after stunning Mombasa United 2-0, ending their six-match winless run.

Coach Billy Agai will be hopeful his side can build on the long-awaited victory.

Historically, All Stars head into this clash as slight favourites, having edged Nzoia last season.

The kisumu based outfit drew 1-1 in the first leg before winning the reverse fixture 3-1, setting the stage for a closely fought contest.

The final fixture of the day sees struggling sides Mully Children’s Family (MCF) host Luanda Villa at the MCF Complex in Ndalani.

Both teams are hunting consistency in a campaign marred by fluctuations in form.

MCF, now without former coach Vincent Nyaberi, who left last week, are seeking to build long-overdue momentum as they chase their third win of the season, a result that would also mark their first three-match unbeaten run of the campaign.

Luanda Villa, similarly inconsistent, are eyeing a fresh start and a third win of their own as they attempt to climb out of the lower reaches of the table.

History favours MCF, who have won two of their last three meetings, with the other ending in a draw.

Coach Leonard Swaleh will be keen to break that dominance, while MCF look to extend their superiority.
