The league will take a break to pave way for the FIFA week

Ulinzi Stars sank to the bottom of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League after suffering their second successive defeat following the 1-0 loss to Gor Mahia on Saturday at the Lang’ata Complex.

Ulinzi kicked off the season with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Nzoia Sugar last weekend at Sudi Stadium and came out second in the subsequent duel against Gor.

Kenyan international Kevin Juma scored the all-important goal to hand Gor maximum points at the expense of Ulinzi.

The defeat to Gor is one that left coach Anthony Kimani frustrated with the number of chances his forwards threw away.

Kimani, who took over the reigns before the season kicked off, observed that the goal-shy forward line let the team down as they couldn’t make the clear-cut chances they created count.

We lacked sharpness in the attacking third. We created, but unfortunately, we didn’t utilize the chances,” rued Kimani.

The inability to score for fun and gather points in the two matches is a source of worry for the youthful tactician at the moment.

However, he appreciates that there is time to polish the department before the league resumes after the FIFA international week.

While the defeat left a sour taste in Kimani’s mouth, his Gor counterpart, Johnathan McKinstry, was satisfied with how his charges fared against an opponent who has traditionally proven a hard nut to crack.

The league-winning tactician termed the game tough but reserved praise for his players for managing to bag three points at the end of it.

Ulinzi is always a tough opponent, especially when playing them away. The players worked incredibly hard for the win,” he said.

The Northern Irish could afford a smile given the impact the new players had on the team.

The team is getting better; we recruited in the right areas,” he said.
