He acknowledged his side was the better team but ended up losing to what he described as a cheap goal.
Fresh from beating Mara Sugar FC in Awendo, Muyoti was seeking his second win as the Law Enforcers’ head coach when he travelled to Mombasa to face Bandari, who are guided by Bernard Mwalala.
Mwalala, also new at the Mombasa-based club, had overseen three games as the club boss heading into the rescheduled showdown.
What was largely a balanced game was decided by a second-half goal from Darius Msagha. The strike handed Muyoti his first defeat as Police coach and gave Mwalala his third win in four games, matching the club’s haul over the previous 14 games before he was appointed.
The win lifted Bandari to sixth on the table with 27 points, nine behind leaders Gor Mahia and second-placed AFC Leopards. Police, on the other hand, remain fourth with 28 points and are gradually dropping off in the race to retain their league title.
Muyoti shared his thoughts in a post-match interview, expressing confidence in his team. The former Kenya international noted that his side had dominated the game and were unlucky to drop all three points.
“We played well and dominated most of the game, but we conceded a very cheap goal from a direct corner.
Still, I’m happy with the performance, and I believe the players will soon fully adapt to our style of play,” Muyoti said.
For his part, Mwalala, who is on his second stint with Bandari, said the team’s goal is to collect as many points as possible with their eyes trained on a top-five finish.
“Our aim is to win every match. The mission now is to break into the top five and then plan from there,” he said.
Mwalala also expressed satisfaction with the support he has received since returning, noting that everyone is playing their part as they build a solid team for the second phase of the campaign.
“Since I arrived, I’ve received full support from the management and fans. We are building a strong team, a team that belongs in the top five, not by luck. That’s the mentality I’m bringing back,” he added.
Both teams will be back in action this weekend. Bandari will travel to Kisii to face Shabana FC on Sunday, while Kenya Police FC will host Bidco United on the same day.
