AFC Leopards will play league leaders Posta Rangers next
Nairobi City Stars ended their winless run with a 3-2 win over AFC Leopards in an FKF Premier League match staged at the Moi Kasarani Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Heading into the game, Simba wa Nairobi had lost three of their last four games and were seeking redemption against Ingwe. Leopards on the other hand, were out to get their second win of the season and, in the process, moved from the wrong end of the table.
So confident was Tomas Trucha in his team that he maintained the 11 that drew with Kariobangi Sharks while City Stars had to make a few changes, among them replacing Kelvin Etemesi, who saw red last time out against Murang’a Seal.
Vincent Owino got the ball rolling with a 24th-minute opener for Nicholas Muyoti’s men. The midfielder curled home a freekick that was aided by poor wall arrangement and goalkeeping. The goal separated the two teams at the interval.
Ten minutes into the second half, Samuel Kapen made it 2-0 after capitalizing on an accidental clash between the Leopards keeper and his defender. New signing Robinson Asenwa then scored the third goal of the match in the 62nd minute.
The Leopards pulled one back in the 82nd minute from the penalty spot as Brian Yakhama converted for his fourth goal of the campaign. A minute later, substitute Victor Otieno scored his first ever league goal to ensure a tense finish to the game, but City Stars held on to claim maximum points.
Up next for the Nairobi City Stars is an away game against Tusker FC, while the AFC Leopards will play league leaders Posta Rangers.
