A total of 32 tantalizing matches will mark the beginning of Kenya’s oldest domestic cup competition, now in its 70th year.
This year’s edition promises a competitive mix of sides, with 15 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) teams gracing the tournament, alongside three National Super League entrants, MOFA, Kibera Black Stars, and 3K FC.
Defending champions Nairobi United will kick off their title defense with an away clash against the relatively unknown L15 FC, while record cup holders AFC Leopards, boasting ten titles, will aim to extend their dominance as they travel to Kayole to face BB Bread FC, hoping to end a nine-year trophy drought.
Gor Mahia, last season’s runners-up and record FKF-PL champions, will journey to Siaya County to meet Dero FC, seeking their elusive ninth domestic cup title, a trophy that has evaded them for four years.
Meanwhile, last year’s semi-finalists, Murang’a Seal, will battle Kahawa Pride FC, and Mara Sugar will travel to Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, to face Wisdom FC.
Kakamega Homeboyz, the winners in 2023 and backed by gaming firm Mozzart Bet, will take a short trip to Kisumu to face Amani Youth FC, beginning their quest for a second cup title.
Five-time champions Tusker FC start their hunt for a sixth trophy against Mwea United, while two-time winners Bandari FC clash with Githurai All Stars.
2024 champions and defending FKF-PL title holders Kenya Police will take on Embakasi United, aiming for a domestic cup double that narrowly eluded them last year.
The 57th edition of the competition comes with a significantly enhanced prize pool, following Mozzart Bet’s decision to inject Ksh 10 million, up from the previous edition, taking their sponsorship to Ksh 90 million for the next three years.
The stakes are high, as winners will take home Ksh 3 million and earn the right to represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup, while the first runners-up will pocket Ksh 2 million, second runners-up Ksh 1.5 million, fourth place Ksh 1 million, and fifth place Ksh 750,000.
Individual awards will also feature heavily this year.
The top scorer, best goalkeeper, best defender, and best midfielder will each receive Ksh 150,000, while the most promising young talent will take home Ksh 100,000.
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) will be rewarded with KSh 200,000 alongside a personalized trophy.
Matches are scheduled to commence on the first weekend of February (7th–8th), promising a thrilling start to the country’s most prestigious domestic cup.
