ADAK alleged that Njuguna committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) after accumulating three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period.
Nairobi United have been dealt a major blow after the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) handed experienced winger John Collins Njuguna a two-year ban for violating anti-doping regulations.
The ban follows a successful application by the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK), which sought the orders after the former Tusker and Njuguna allegedly failed to avail himself for doping tests over a period of one year.
In a charge dated 4 February 2026, ADAK alleged that Njuguna committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) after accumulating three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period.
According to ADAK, Njuguna was notified on 15 August 2024 that he would be included in the Registered Testing Pool (RTP), where he was required to undergo quarterly testing.
However, he is said to have failed to comply with his obligations in Quarter 2 of 2025 (1 April – 30 June) and Quarter 3 of 2025 (1 July – 30 September), despite receiving multiple formal notices.
ADAK further stated that on each of these occasions, Njuguna was informed of the consequences of his non-compliance, including potential sanctions, but he either failed to respond or provide a satisfactory explanation.
In his defence, Njuguna, through advocate Siema Majani of Siema Majani & Associates, argued that the whereabouts failures resulted from communication lapses and procedural misunderstandings rather than deliberate or reckless conduct.
He maintained that he had been in communication with ADAK, including email correspondence and location updates, and had also sought guidance on the whereabouts filing process.
However, the SDT ruled that Njuguna was guilty of whereabouts failures and imposed a two-year period of ineligibility, effective 23 December 2025, the date of his provisional suspension.
The tribunal further barred him from participating in any capacity in competitions organized or sanctioned by FKF, CAF, FIFA, or any other signatory to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code.
