At Eldoret Showground, Soy United produced a resolute performance to edge visiting Mombasa United 1-0

National Super League leaders Migori Youth squandered a golden opportunity to widen their advantage at the summit after being held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at home by debutants Kabati Youth FC on Sunday.

The Mozart Bet–backed side had targeted the encounter as a chance to stretch their lead in the tightly-contested 20-team league, but what unfolded was a match defined by missed opportunities and growing frustration.

Kabati Youth struck first through Dennis Karajan, whose early effort stunned the hosts and shifted momentum in favour of the newcomers.

Migori responded through Samuel Michael, whose equaliser restored parity but failed to ignite a winning push.

The result marked Migori Youth’s third consecutive match without a win, following back-to-back defeats at the close of 2025, arguably their poorest run of the campaign.

Despite the setback, Migori remained top of the standings on 30 points, aided by slip-ups from close challengers 3K FC, MOFA and Mombasa United in their respective fixtures.

For Kabati Youth, the draw represented a spirited statement in their survival battle, although it did little to ease their relegation concerns as they remain entrenched in the dogfight near the bottom of the table.

At Eldoret Showground, Soy United produced a resolute performance to edge visiting Mombasa United 1-0.

A decisive second-half strike by John Kahanda proved enough to separate the sides and hand the Soy-based outfit their sixth win of the season.

The victory lifted Soy United to 12th place on 22 points, just eight adrift of leaders Migori Youth with a game in hand.

For Mombasa United, the defeat marked their sixth loss of the campaign, seeing them drop out of the top four to fifth place on 25 points.

At Embu Stadium, Naivas FC continued their resurgence with a stunning 2-1 away win over 3K FC, inflicting the hosts’ first home defeat of the season.

Emmanuel Lunalo converted from the penalty spot, before Robert Obaga added a second to cancel out Sellasie Otieno’s late consolation goal.

The victory made it back-to-back wins for Elvis Ayany’s side, pushing Naivas into the top half of the table in ninth place on 22 points.

For 3K FC, the loss was a major blow to their title ambitions, as they missed the chance to go joint-top with Migori Youth and now sit third on 27 points, three off the summit.

Bottom-placed Mwatate United produced one of the shocks of the round after edging hosts Vihiga United 2-1 at Kenyatta Stadium, Mamboleo.

The result ended Mwatate’s eight-match winless run, which included a seven-game losing streak.

The rare victory offered a significant morale boost for coach Evans Mafuta, providing a positive start to the new year as his side looks to revive a faltering season.

While the win did little to change their league position, Mwatate moved to 10 points, now just six points from safety.

Vihiga United’s struggles deepened as they suffered a fourth consecutive defeat, leaving them second from bottom on 12 points, only two ahead of Mwatate and piling pressure on head coach Milton Kidiga.

Earlier in the day, Kibera Black Stars extended their impressive resurgence with a 2-1 win over Luanda Villa in the 11:00am kickoff.

A brace from Dalton Owino cancelled out Victor Barrack’s consolation goal, lifting the Iddi Badi-coached side to fourth place on 26 points, just four adrift of leaders Migori Youth.

The defeat ended Luanda Villa’s six-match unbeaten run, dropping Leonard Swaleh’s side into 13th place on 21 points, though still within touching distance of the promotion conversation.

In the late fixture at Moi Stadium, Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Equity FC, despite dominating long spells.

Laban Otieno’s stoppage-time strike salvaged a point for MOFA after a hard-fought contest.

The draw left MOFA on 28 points, missing a chance to close the gap on Migori Youth, while Equity FC climbed to seventh place on 25 points.
