Despite the draw, the slum boys have opened a six-point lead at the summit of the National Super League while Rainbow moves to fourteenth on ten points
Migori Youth survived a late scare to pick up maximum points from their National Super League game against Kibera Black Stars staged at Migori Green Stadium to extend their unbeaten run to three matches.
Migori battled to a goalless first half in the half-packed Migori Stadium but a change in tactic from the experienced Peter Okidi breathed life in the MYTA troops and Fredrick Simiyu struck in the 73rd minute to hand the border club a much-deserved 1-0 win over the Nairobi opposition.
The win was Okidi’s fifth of the campaign since he took over the reins from Kevin Olouch and it takes them to fifth on the twenty-team log whereas it ended Kibera Black Stars' streak of three games without defeat and demoted Yamama to twelfth on the log.
At Mumias Sports Complex, Mulembe United bounced back from last weekend’s 2-1 loss to Mombasa Stars in front of their own fans with a 2-0 beating of Silibwet Leons in a match staged on Saturday afternoon.
The match was coach Mike Mururi’s first in charge since his reappointment following the departure of Samuel Twago to Soy United earlier last week.
The club’s top scorer this term Kennedy Onzere netted in the second half before creating a chance for Bryson Juma to net his maiden goal for the club and pip Silibwet to three points.
The victory took Mulembe to eleventh on the standings tied on points with tenth-placed Mombasa Stars who take to the green grass on Sunday.
At Ruaraka Grounds, league leaders Mathare United maintained their lead at the helm of the table however, struggled to beat an inconsistent Rainbow FC playing out a 1-1 draw in a match staged on Saturday.
Steve Kimari converted from the spot for the host in the 77th minute after a Rainbow arsenal had handled the ball inside the penalty area but the lead lasted for less than ten minutes as David Wafula struck in the dying minutes of the game to give the Erick Macharia’s charges a share of the spoils.
Despite the draw, the slum boys have opened a six-point lead at the summit of the National Super League while Rainbow moves to fourteenth on ten points.
