Equity Bank fans will have to wait a little longer to see their side register three consecutive wins in the National Super League (NSL).

That wait was extended on Wednesday, 7 January, after the Bankers suffered a 2-1 defeat to Soy United at the ASK Eldoret Showgrounds.
Erick Namasaka, the younger brother of former KCB midfielder Daniel Chetambe, stole the spotlight with a well taken brace that produced the league’s first goals of 2026 and secured all three points for the hosts.
The fixture was a rescheduled match from Round two, having been postponed earlier as Soy United waited to learn their Super League fate following the playoffs.
Namasaka opened the scoring in the 16th minute after being set up by full back Cliff Vincent Ouma.
He returned in the second half to double Soy’s advantage in the 62nd minute, heading home from another delivery by Cliff, this time from a free kick.
Equity, coached by John Mbwezo, pulled one back deep into stoppage time when Rashid Moyo converted a penalty in the 90th minute plus six, but it proved too little, too late.

The victory marks a positive start to the year for the Blue Eagles, who move to 14th place on the 20 team table with 19 points.
It also ends a run of two matches without a win and eases the pressure that had begun to build around the team following the departure of assistant coach Samuel Twago to third tier side Bungoma Superstars.
For Equity, attention now turns to the drawing board ahead of a tricky weekend clash against Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) in Kisumu.
Despite an encouraging start to life in the second tier, the Bankers are still searching for their first run of three straight wins since promotion.
Before the Soy clash, they had picked up victories against Vihiga United and Darajani Gogo.
Their last attempt at a sustained run of good results came in November 2025 when they beat Migori Youth and Kibera Black Stars, before drawing with Naivas and losing to Mombasa United.
The defeat leaves the Bankers sixth on the standings with 24 points, five adrift of leaders Migori Youth.
Darajani Gogo 0-0 Gucha Stars
At Marist International Grounds in Karen, William Oricho began his tenure as Darajani Gogo head coach with a solid goalless draw against newcomers Gucha Stars.
The result sees Darajani Gogo move up to 11th on the table with 21 points, while Gucha Stars remain 15th with 18 points.
