The Brazilian is set to stay at Duhail until the end of the season

Former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho will play alongside Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga after completing a move to Qatari side Al Duhail, and the former Gor Mahia forward is already excited by the development going by his social media post after the announcement by the club.

The Brazilian has joined the Qatar Stars League on a season-long loan deal from English Premier League side Aston Villa.

Duhail have had a good start to their 2023/24 campaign, winning two of their opening three matches so far and drawing in the other to occupy the third spot.

The club confirmed the acquisition of the 31-year-old on their website on Friday evening.

"As part of the Club efforts to strengthen the first football team, Al Duhail Club Management was able to gain the services of the Brazilian and Aston Villa star, Philippe Coutinho, born in 1992, for one season on loan, and the player signed his transfer contract in front of Mr. Khalifa Khamis, Al Duhail Club Vice President.

Coutinho is considered one of the distinguished players after he succeeded in making his mark during his previous professional experiences, and his joining the team is a great asset ahead of entering the AFC Champions League fixtures," part of the statement read.

The most immediate task for Duhail which would see Coutinho and Olunga play together will be an AFC Champions League match against Tajikistan side Istiklol on Tuesday 19 September 2023.

They will then return to league action four days later as they visit Al-Gharafa.

Olunga is currently on international duty with Harambee Stars.

He was on assist duties on Thursday evening as Kenya beat Qatar 2-1 in a friendly match at the Al Janoub Stadium and is expected to lead the team against South Sudan in another friendly match set to be played in Nairobi on Tuesday.
