In a statement released by the club, Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier announced that Owalo’s appointment took effect from Saturday, 1 November.
“Further to the press release dated 16 October 2025 by the club executive regarding the notice of assumption by then club deputy patron Hon. Eliud Owalo as acting club patron, this is to formally notify the general public, the football fraternity, and Gor Mahia members and fans that the club has confirmed the appointment of Hon. Eliud Owalo as the substantive club patron with effect from the first day of November 2025,” read the statement.
Owalo was initially named acting patron on Thursday, 16 October, a day after the passing of Odinga, who had served as the club’s patron for over two decades.
Currently serving as Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Performance and Delivery Management at State House, Owalo has been a lifelong supporter of Gor Mahia and has actively participated in the club’s affairs over the years.
During his tenure as deputy patron, he played a key role in several initiatives, including the purchase of the club’s new bus and the recruitment of players during Kenya’s participation in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August.
Among those signed with his support were goalkeeper Byrne Omondi and Siraj Mohammed from Bandari, Mike Kibwage from Tusker, and Lewis Bandi from AFC Leopards.
At his previous unveiling as deputy patron, Owalo pledged to professionalise the club’s management, secure land for a modern stadium and training facility, and enhance player and staff welfare.
He also vowed to strengthen Gor’s administrative structures and restore its place among Africa’s leading football clubs.
Under Odinga’s patronage, Gor Mahia became the most successful football club in Kenya, winning multiple league titles and establishing itself as a powerhouse both domestically and in regional competitions.
Owalo’s appointment is now seen as a continuation of that legacy, with hopes that his leadership will usher in a new era of stability and growth for K’Ogalo.
