Outgoing Gor Mahia captain Philemon Otieno has revealed that the club has already turned its focus to the CAF Champions League following their successful domestic title triumph.
K’Ogalo booked a place in the prestigious competition courtesy of reclaiming the 2025/26 FKF Premier League title from Police FC.
Otieno, who captained the team to the league title in his final season at the club, has now opened up on Gor Mahia’s plans heading into the continental tournament.
“There is no room for crazy celebrations, the team is already focusing on how the team will perform in the CAF Champions League. It is a big and competitive tournament that we have to prepare really well for,” said Otieno.
Apart from continental glory, the former Ushuru United player also revealed that the club is determined to continue with their dominance locally.
“We also have to make sure that we retain the league title and not slip like it happened in the past,” he added.
The versatile Otieno, who has won an impressive seven league titles, also took delight in their success, disclosing what spurred K’Ogalo to a record 22nd league title.
“It has been a great season. At least we achieved the objective of retaining the league title. It took the hard work and dedication of all players to make it happen.”
In preparation for the continental tournament, Gor Mahia have prepared a raft of changes to the playing unit, including letting go of Otieno alongside Ernest Wendo, who bagged his record eighth league title as a player.
However, Otieno is expected to transition to the position of Team Manager, a role he combined with captaining the team this season.
In a bid to fund the upcoming player transfers as well as continental duty, Gor Mahia has mobilized resources including Ksh10 million from President William Ruto and Ksh2 million from the Cabinet Secretary for the Treasury John Mbadi.
