The days leading up to any World Cup finals are incredibly emotional in the little South American country

The last doubt is no more - Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has been included in Uruguay's World Cup squad despite nursing an adductor muscle injury since late September.

Uruguay coach Diego Alonso named a strong squad for the two-time World Champions. Real Madrid's in-form midfielder Federico Valverde and Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez will be the biggest stars, but there is quality all around the squad. Matias Vecino, Rodrigo Betancur, Matias Vina, Sebastian Coates and Lucas Torreira are all playing for big clubs at the highest level.

But there is place for tried and tested veterans Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani, Fernando Muslera, Diego Godin... Of course!

Uruguayans are very proud of their history and national identity - and showing it off during World Cups is a given. Squeezed between huge countries Argentina and Brazil, on the Atlantic coast, Uruguay has a population of just over three million, with two-thirds of that living in and around the capital Montevideo. The football's association's video announcing the squad for Qatar features Diego Alonso going over the map of Uruguay and looking up players' birthplaces. It's all brimming with pride - just as it should be.

The tournament in the Middle East will be the last dance for Uruguayan's golden generation, including strikers Suarez and Cavani. Born just 21 days apart in the northern Salto department, the two 35-year-olds have graced some of Europe's most prestigious clubs while never failing to light up their homeland shores.Their remarkable careers have left them as the two greatest goalscorers in the Celeste national team's history: Suarez has 68 goals in 134 matches, with Cavani scoring 58 from 133 games.

For the better part of 15 years, they have been pillars of a plucky Uruguay outfit that reached the World Cup semi-finals in South Africa in 2010 before lifting the Copa America the following year. This will be their fourth World Cup, and despite their advancing years, they remain heroes to their compatriots. And the chance to represent their nation in the World Cup is what every Uruguayan lives for.
