At the time of suspension, a total of 17 rounds had already been played, with only five remaining before the end of the season.
Michael Olunga has received a major security boost after Qatar announced the indefinite suspension of football activities.
Uncertainty has rocked the Arab nation in recent weeks following the ongoing regional Israel-Iran conflict, which has broadened into a proxy confrontation affecting several countries, including Qatar.
The conflict has heightened tensions in the country, with flights remaining one of the key risks for citizens and residents.
As a result, many economic and social activities have been paralysed for safety reasons, with football the latest to be suspended, as announced by the Qatar Football Association on Sunday, 1 March.
“Qatar Football Association announces the postponement of all tournaments, competitions and matches, effective from today and until further notice.
The new dates for the resumption of competitions will be announced in due course through the Association's official channels,” read the statement by the QFA.
Olunga plies his trade in Qatar with Al Arabi, where he has scored six league goals so far. He is one goal behind former Paris Saint-Germain striker Pablo Sarabia, who is the club's leading goalscorer.
At the time of suspension, a total of 17 rounds had already been played, with only five remaining before the end of the season. Al Arabi sit sixth on the log with 24 points.
The present crisis stems from a military escalation between Israel and Iran that intensified in late February following joint Israel and US attacks on Iran targeting senior leadership. This prompted widespread retaliation against US and allied assets across the Gulf.
Qatar is particularly affected as it hosts the US’s major military installation, Al Udeid Air Base, a key site for American operations in the region.
In recent days, Qatar has detected and intercepted several waves of Iranian missiles and drones over its territory, with falling debris leaving some citizens injured.
As a result, Qatar closed its airspace and suspended flights, with many embassies advising their citizens to remain indoors.
Given the prevailing security situation in the Gulf nation, it became increasingly impossible for sporting activities to continue, necessitating their suspension.
