The experienced administrator moved to the High Court to challenge a decision by the Registrar that declared him ineligible to continue serving as Gor Mahia chairman, due to the expiry of his tenure, and ordered the club to hold elections after a four-week notice to members.

In a constitutional petition HCCR PET/E372/20264 before Justice David Mburu, the court agreed with Rachier and issued temporary orders staying the implementation and enforcement of the directives of the Sports Registrar, with the case now set for mention on Wednesday, 15 July.

The legal battle between the sports registrar and the conveyance law guru began following a letter from the former to Gor Mahia on 10 June, directing that club officials who had served continuously since Gor Mahia’s registration under the Sports Act in June 2018, be replaced following the end of their eight-year term limit.

Whilst the Registrar recognized that the first club elections under the Sports Act were held in 2020, Wasike insisted that officials who were serving when the Club was registered in 2018 had completed their tenure in office.

According to Rachier, his tenure under the Sports Act began after the elections of 2020, and therefore his term should come to an end in 2028 June, at the earliest.

The impasse comes just over a year after Rachier secured another term to serve at the helm of the club, following elections held in April 2025.

Rachier has been at the apex of K’Ogalo’s leadership since 2008, a period that has seen the club achieve success on the pitch, while critics point to underwhelming development off the pitch.

In this 18-year tenure, Rachier, who was conferred with the covered Senior Counsel rank in December 2025, has guided the club to an impressive 10 league titles.
