With Homeboyz keen to consolidate their place at the top of the standings, and Tusker eager to build momentum after a slow start to the campaign, the contest kicked off at a blistering pace.

Homeboyz nearly drew first blood in the fifth minute when Gedeon Bendeka, set through on goal by Josphat Lopaga, saw his close-range effort blocked by defender Tom Teka

Eight minutes later, Bendeka squandered another golden opportunity after slipping while attempting to tap in a teasing ball from Lopaga.

Tusker threatened in the 18th minute through Erick Kapaito, who broke free between two defenders and attempted to lob goalkeeper Edwin Mukolwe, only for Eugene Ochieng to recover brilliantly and clear the danger.

Homeboyz continued to press and came close twice in the 23rd minute, first through a Bendeka header from Boniface Onyango’s delivery and then, through Lopaga, whose follow-up effort drifted narrowly wide.

Moments later, Kapaito again tested Mukolwe, forcing the Homeboyz shot-stopper into a full-stretch save to his right.

Tusker nearly grabbed the opener just before halftime when Dennis Oguta rose highest to meet Cliff Oruko’s cross, but his header flew over the bar.

After the restart, Homeboyz started the brighter side, with Henry Omollo and Lopaga both drawing smart saves from Tusker custodian Brian Opondo.

However, against the run of play, Tusker broke the deadlock in the 61st minute when substitute Oalo latched onto Fabian Adikiny’s clever through, and lofted a neat chip past Mukolwe.

The goal ignited Homeboyz’s response, pushing forward relentlessly.

Substitute Majaka came close to equalizing in the 68th minute, forcing Opondo into a fingertip save before heading Eston Omengo’s corner against the upright minutes later.

Tusker almost doubled their lead in the 75th minute when Oalo pounced on a loose ball inside the area but blasted wide.

The miss proved costly as Homeboyz eventually found their equalizer three minutes from time.

Majaka, lively since his introduction, reacted quickest to a poorly cleared ball and unleashed a thunderous strike past Opondo to level matters for the hosts.

Despite both sides’ late efforts, neither could find a winner, as the draw ended their respective winning runs.

The result leaves Kakamega Homeboyz atop the league standings with 14 points, while Tusker FC continue their steady climb after a resilient away display.
