Roma eyeing three Premier League players

The Rome giants are looking to strengthen

Roma have practically wrapped up the deal to sign Joshua Zirkzee and are well on their way to bringing in Giacomo Raspadori, while Frendrup from Genoa could arrive as part of a swap deal involving Pisilli, and Radu Dragusin could return from the Premier League to Serie A — in other words, swap Tottenham’s shirt for Roma’s. The arrival of Beto from Everton should not be ruled out either, provided Roma manage to send Evan Ferguson back to Brighton and sell Dovbyk, or send him out on loan with an obligation to buy.

Zirkzee will have to wait until mid-January to move to the Eternal City, because Manchester United must first wait for Mbeumo and Diallo to return from the Africa Cup of Nations. The Dutchman has made up his mind and wants only Roma; he is so determined to return to Italy that he is putting pressure on United to let him leave as soon as the January transfer window opens. Roma sporting director Ricky Massara has already scheduled a meeting with his counterparts in order to define a loan deal with an option to buy. As in Zirkzee’s case, the option would become an obligation if Roma qualifies for the Champions League.

In the last few days, negotiations between Roma and Genoa over the Pisilli–Frendrup swap have accelerated, while Cagliari are lurking in the background. The Sardinian club want to sign Pisilli as early as January. In addition, Gasperini is insisting on the arrival of Zappacosta from Atalanta, a wing-back he fully trusts. It is evident that the Friedkin family have decided to speed up the agreed agenda with coach Gasperini. It is no secret that the Friedkins want to build a team capable of winning the Scudetto in the year Roma celebrate the 100th anniversary of the club’s foundation, in 2027. To achieve that goal, Roma must qualify for the Champions League this season in order to have a free hand for a major summer transfer window in 2026.
