Ruined afterparty: Alaves stun hungover Barca
Reading Time: 2min | Thu. 14.05.26. | 10:32
For the first time since December 2024, the Catalans failed to find the net in La Liga, suffering a meaningless defeat against the relegation strugglers - 1-0
For Barcelona, the La Liga season ended four days ago when they brushed aside Real Madrid in El Clasico (2-0) and won the title thanks to a triumph against their fiercest rivals for the first time in the club's history.
Yet the campaign in the Spanish top flight is still underway, so, instead of continuing the celebrations, the Catalans had to face Deportivo Alaves on the road, and, as is often the case in situations like that, they lost 1-0.

In a game that was absolutely meaningless to the hungover Barca, the relegation strugglers gave it all to ruin the champions' afterparty and escape the drop zone, and they eventually made it thanks to the Ivorian striker Ibrahim Diabate, who scored the winner in first-half stoppage time.
Hansi Flick did rotate the starting lineup, but still fielded a fairly strong XI at Estadio Mendizorrotza. However, his players just weren't in the right mood.
They controlled possession throughout the game, but had fewer shots than Alaves (9-8) and none of their 8 attempts hit the target, as they failed to find the net in La Liga for the first time since December 2024 and the duel against Leganes, ending a 56-game scoring run!
This huge victory meant the world for Alaves, as they now sit one point above the relegation zone with two games remaining. As for Barca, they also have two matches to get through before heading off for a well-deserved break.
