The team will operate as Vihiga Bullets until the end of the season
Football Kenya Federation Eastern Division Two side Samwest Blackboots FC have completed a takeover of National Super League (NSL) side Vihiga Bullets after the two sides agreed on a merger, Mozzart Sport can firmly report.
Samwest took part in Eastern zone promotion deciders but lost to Kirinyaga Stars who went on to grace the third tier after seeing apart SHOFCO FC in the regional promotion play offs, and after missing out on Kibera Soccer slot in Division One the ambitious club have now set hands on cash trapped Bullets, parting ways with a whopping Ksh 2.5M for the second-tier spot.
Confirming the developments impeccable sources aligned to Bullets said that the takeover was necessitated as the club was finding it hard to run their affairs due to the hard-economic times in the country and that the sole sponsor of the team former governor Moses Akaranga had dried his wheel.
A source close to Samwest distribution chains however, remained coy on his words terming it a sponsorship deal but we have since established that the required documentations were finalized at the start of the week for a complete takeover of the club including signing of Memorandum of understanding between the parties involved.
In spite of the takeover, Bullets will retail under the same name until the conclusion of the current season as the Football Kenya Federation rules governing the sport does not allow a change of name at the middle of the campaign.
The move marks the end of the iconic Hamisi club tenure in the region as they are set to shift their camp to Nairobi in the coming days.
Bullets was acquired in 2019 from the then Kenyan Premier League side Nakuru All Stars and had their best campaign in the 2020-21 as they came second behind champions FC Talanta to earn promotion to top flight football but got relegated at the end of 2022-2023 season after a disastrous season.
A host of changes are expected at the club with a new board of management and technical bench set to be put in place as the side seek to reinforce their squad and attempt to scale the ladder to Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) despite a poor start to the campaign.
