The club has now gone five consecutive home matches without hitting the Ksh1 million mark, a figure they had previously become accustomed to.
FKF Premier League side Shabana FC has continued to experience a decline in gate collections, with the situation worsening after the club recorded one of its lowest match-day revenues against Ulinzi Stars.
The two teams faced off in a league match played on Saturday, 9 May at Gusii Stadium, which ended in a barren draw.
As has become their norm since returning to the top flight, Shabana quickly took to their social media platforms after the match to reveal the gate collections, a figure that has since sparked discussion within the football community.
“We collected a gross revenue of Ksh398,000. It was great seeing the stadium painted in red and white. Thank you all for the love and support,” read the club’s statement.
While the amount may appear significant, it is relatively low for Shabana, who previously made headlines for collecting millions from home matches.
The Ksh398,000 collected against Ulinzi Stars is Ksh268,000 less than what they earned in their previous home match against Police FC, and Ksh213,500 below the Ksh611,500 generated against Kakamega Homeboyz.
The Glamour Boys had earlier enjoyed strong returns, including Ksh801,000 from their match against Murang’a Seal and Ksh933,000 from their fixture against Kariobangi Sharks.
Some quarters attribute the sharp decline to the aftermath of the Sharks match, after which the club’s management parted ways with coach Peter Okidi, a decision that was not well received by a section of fans.
Since then, Shabana have managed only two wins in six matches, a run of poor results believed to have further affected match attendance and revenue.
The club has now gone five consecutive home matches without hitting the Ksh1 million mark, a figure they had previously become accustomed to.
Their last seven-figure gate collection was recorded on 21 February, when they earned Ksh1,186,400 against Tusker, following Ksh1,131,500 collected in the match against Bandari on 1 February.
