"Some opinions are rubbish," Luis Enrique hits back at PSG critics

PSG coach rejects negative analysis of the win against Bayern, insisting most fans enjoyed the Champions League classic

Most observers agreed: Paris Saint-Germain's 5-4 win over Bayern Munich was the match of the season, and arguably one of the best of the 21st century.

Not everyone was convinced, however. Critics, including former England striker Wayne Rooney, suggested PSG's victory was partly down to defensive lapses rather than pure attacking brilliance.

But PSG head coach Luis Enrique is not interested in that interpretation.

"Like in life, there are different opinions everywhere," he said. "I don't think it's important to respect all of them, because some are just… rubbish. There's no reason to respect every opinion."

The PSG boss insisted the spectacle reflected what most fans want from the game.

"There are people who enjoy football played like this, and I'm one of them. That's the majority. Some don't like it. The most important thing is that we showed most people enjoyed it."

Attention now turns back to Ligue 1, though PSG's domestic dominance means the title race is effectively settled, with Lens six points adrift and time running out.

Much of the focus, instead, is already on the return leg against Bayern - a fixture Luis Enrique himself sees as the pinnacle of the sport.

"The level of both teams, the level of their attackers… maybe 5-4 looks like a defensive disaster," he said.

"But these are two of the best defensive teams, along with Arsenal. The match was simply different. Bayern are the toughest opponent I've faced as PSG coach."

He even defended the quality of the defending in a game defined by attacking chaos.

"It was a unique match. I usually spend three hours analysing games, but this one took five.

"There were no defensive mistakes, that's why it was magnificent. Look at how Harry Kane and Ousmane Dembele defended. Incredible. We must congratulate both teams."

PSG will, however, be forced into the return leg without key right-back Achraf Hakimi.

"Do I need to explain? A starter, always at an exceptional level. He's a machine, like having three players in one."
