In a match that will be talked about for years, the Parisians, at their home ground in the 'final before final' defeated Bayern Munich at the Parc des Princes in a 9-goal thriller: 5-4

“Final before the final” – that’s how the match between PSG and Bayern Munich in the French capital was announced, and that’s exactly how it looked. 9 goals, a load of exciting moments, and brilliant individual skills – everything a game should have.

Neutral fans watching this clash are probably wondering why it can’t last forever – but still, we can hardly wait for next Wednesday and another showdown between these two giants.

The opening stages at the Parc des Princes offered little in terms of clear-cut chances, as both Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich approached the game cautiously, probing for weaknesses. Bayern looked slightly sharper in the first ten minutes, controlling possession and asking more questions in the final third. A notable moment came in the 14th minute when Joshua Kimmich’s corner swung dangerously toward goal, but PSG goalkeeper Safonov reacted well to clear the threat.

Just two minutes later, the deadlock was broken. Bayern won a penalty after a well-worked move saw Luis Diaz brought down by William Pacho inside the box. Harry Kane stepped up and calmly converted from the spot, giving the visitors a 1–0 lead.

Bayern nearly doubled their advantage in the 20th minute, with Kane delivering a brilliant pass to Michael Olise, but Safonov produced an excellent save to deny him in a one-on-one situation.

PSG responded soon after, and in the 23rd minute they squandered a golden opportunity. Zaire-Emery picked out Dembele with a perfect pass, but the Frenchman, with plenty of time and space, fired his effort well wide of the target. However, redemption came quickly for the home side. Just a minute later, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia produced a moment of brilliance, driving forward on his own, beating his marker, and finishing clinically to make it 1–1.

The game continued at a relentless pace. Bayern came close again in the 32nd minute when Olise’s dangerous run and cross deflected off Joao Neves and struck the post.

But PSG turned the game around almost immediately. From the resulting sequence, Joao Neves went from savior to scorer, rising brilliantly to head home from a corner and put the hosts 2–1 ahead in the 33rd minute.

Chances kept coming, and in the 37th minute Desire Doue nearly added a third for PSG after a swift counterattack, but his shot drifted just wide. Bayern, however, found a response before the break. In the 41st minute, Olise showcased his quality, cutting inside and unleashing a powerful strike from distance that flew under the crossbar, leaving Safonov with no chance and leveling the score at 2–2.

Deep into stoppage time, drama struck again. Dembele’s cross struck Alphonso Davies on the arm, and after a VAR review, the referee pointed to the spot. Dembele took responsibility and made no mistake, restoring PSG’s lead and sending them into halftime 3–2 up after a thrilling and action-packed first half in Paris.

The second half at the Parc des Princes turned into a true goal fest, with a relentless tempo and chances coming one after another.

PSG came out of the break determined to finish the job. In the 56th minute, they struck again – Kvaratskhelia scored his second goal of the night after the first real attack of the half. Vitinha delivered a brilliant pass toward Hakimi, Dembele cleverly let the ball run through, and the Georgian found himself in the right place to calmly beat Neuer once more.

Just two minutes later, another blow for Bayern. In the 58th minute, Dembele made it 5–2 with his second goal of the match, sending the home crowd into raptures. It was a fantastic counterattack led by Doue, who carried the ball across half the pitch before laying it off to Dembele. From a very difficult angle, he managed to shoot through Upamecano’s legs, with the ball bouncing off the post and into the net.

However, Bayern refused to give up. In the 65th minute, they pulled one back – Joshua Kimmich delivered a free kick into the box, and the ball appeared to take a touch off Upamecano before ending up behind Safonov, making it 5–3.

The drama continued just three minutes later. Luis Diaz found the net after a great pass from Kane, but the goal was initially ruled out for offside. After a VAR review, however, the decision was overturned and the goal stood, bringing Bayern right back into the game.

Following that surge from the visitors, the pace slightly dropped, but the tension remained high. In the 87th minute, young Mayulu, who had just come on, came close to sealing the match, but his effort struck the post.

There were no more goals until the final whistle, but the second half delivered everything – goals, drama, VAR controversy, and nonstop excitement.
