The Kenyan International has been out of action since February this year when he picked an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during the 1-0 win over Motherwell

St Mirren's boss Stephen Robinson has given an update on the return of Kenyan forward Jonah Ayunga, laying bare his admiration for the 26-year-old.

Ayunga has been out of action since February this year and the tactician has revealed that the Kenyan needs at least up to eight weeks to be able to feature for the team again.

He picked an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during the 1-0 win over Motherwell in February and underwent surgery the same month but has since returned to rehabilitation training on the green.

Further, Robinson, who worked with Ayunga at Morecambe has equated the anticipated return of the player to bring the feeling of a new signing, admitting that he is excited every time he sees the former Brighton & Hove Albion man.

“You see him running around now and his physique and the size of him. He’s a beautiful-looking human being! He just excites me when I see him. As a player, we’ll be delighted to have him back. He’ll be like a brand new signing for us. It’s difficult to put a timeline on it.

When you’re coming back from these injuries you pick up little niggles and things along the way. We’re still looking at a minimum of six to eight weeks. He looks great and he’s doing well but I don’t want to put any extra pressure on him," the coach said as quoted by Daily Record.

Robinson went on to reveal that Mirren are planning to tie down the towering attacker in the near future to avoid losing him cheaply when he is back in action.

He joined the Scottish side in July last year on a two-season deal that is set to see him at Mirren until the end of the current season unless they activate an extension.

“He’s someone we’ll tie down on a contract as well in the coming weeks because we see the value of looking after people when they’ve had a hard time. But we know the value he’ll bring to the squad when he’s fully fit again too,” he added.

St Mirren have had a perfect start to the season, winning both their opening matches and are second on the log behind Celtic.
